Pasture Walk: Sheep Grazing Cover Crops

  • Hickory Hill Ranch 1384 North Log Cabin Lane Ina, Illinois, 62846 United States (map)

Cover crops and sheep make a strong pairing. The flock gets quality winter forage, and the cropland gets grazed, fertilized and managed without another trip across the field. Join hosts Nathan and David Brubaker at Hickory Hill Ranch in Ina to see it in action on a working operation!

ILGLC’s own Logan Karcher, Director of Producer Programs, runs his sheep on the Brubakers’ cover crops. He’ll be on hand with Nathan and David to talk through how the arrangement works. Topics include:

  • Grazing sheep on cover crops: what to plant, timing and what to watch for

  • Finding land access when you don’t own the ground

  • Building working partnerships between graziers and landowners

Whether you have livestock and need forage, or cropland that could use some animals, you’ll leave with ideas for making it work.

RSVP for free to attend! Light refreshments will be provided.
